What matters most at First Baptist Church?

Many things matter to the family of believers that make up First Baptist. Our purpose is very simple. As a congregation, we desire to love God and others. In 2005 our church family clarified that purpose with the following vision statements that define our purpose. Below you can read more about our eight statements.

1. Respond to God’s love by worshiping Him as Lord through obedience, repentance, prayer, Bible study, Biblical preaching, praise, faithfulness, stewardship and love for others. (Ps. 122:1; Mt. 22:36-40; Jn. 4:23-24)

2. Embrace one another in a spirit of unity, trust, and respect.  ALso to see that each individual feels welcomed, accepted and valued as a unique part of the body of Christ. (Rom. 15:5-6; II Cor. 5:17-19; I Thes. 2:8; Titus 3:14)

3. Encourage, equip, and support one another in becoming committed family members by developing our individual spiritual gifts and abilities to build up the body of Christ. (Rom. 12:3-8; I Cor. 12:4-6; Eph. 4:11-13)

4. Partner with families to provide a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for children, youth and adults to study God’s Word, experience His love, accept Christ as Savior and become equipped for a lifetime of Kingdom service. (Deut. 6:4-9; Ps. 119:11, 105; Rom. 6:23; 10:9-10)

5. Invest our lives in ministry to unchurched believers through friendship and love, seeking to provide healing and restoration. (Lk. 22:31-32; Eph. 4:1-6; Heb. 3:13; 10:24-25; Rm. 14:13-16)

6. Demonstrate the love of Jesus to non-believers, wherever they are, by sharing the gospel while meeting their spiritual, physical and emotional needs and affirming that they are loved and treasured by God. (Jn. 3:16; I Cor. 9:16-27; II Cor. 5:20; Eph. 2:8-10)

7. Support missionaries who share the gospel locally, nationally and globally through prayer, resources and the investment of our personal time and energy. (Mt. 28:18-20; Acts 1:8)

8. Affirm, respect, follow and support the leadership of our staff, valuing them as members of our family. (Eph. 4:11-13; I Tim. 3:1-7; 5:16; Titus 1:5-9)
